Every year, for as long as I can remember, Phil the Groundhog comes out of his nest on February 2nd and sees his shadow. That means, according to this whacky. loveable US tradition, that a rodent can predict the weather. Only this year, he did not see his shadow! Which means that Spring will soon be upon us.
Well, who can say whether a rodent or a TV weather station/channel is better at predicting? Frankly, those folks are wrong almost always and they still have their jobs!
At the same time, even if spring will come earlier than six weeks, here in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, we are getting socked by a blizzard. Yesterday it was 74 degrees (Fahrenheit) and today it is going to plummet to 13 degrees. (In Celsius, that’s a drop from 23 degrees to -10 degrees.)
Today I am working snug in my bed, working on my laptop while I sip a cup of tea and watch the snow fall outside my windows. Every so often it starts coming down in flurries, and then it lets up, only to come down harder. We are expecting at least half a foot in my area.
While I don’t love winter, I do love being able to work from home – and especially to be writing full time. You’ve already heard about my plans for this year, so I wanted to give you a quick update, and, as promised, a cover reveal for Hemingway’s Notebook!
The story is off to my lovely beta readers. Early reports are good, so that makes me very happy. I know you will love these characters – I know I fell in love with them while writing about them. Isn’t that funny? They are as real to me as anyone on the planet, and by the time I am finished writing the story, I don’t want to say goodbye to them.
If you’ve been in my group awhile, you’ve seen me make posts about the research I’m doing (too much, I’m thinking!), and about how depressing the year 1932 is to write about. This story makes me cry, and it’s supposed to be a Romance! It will have a Romance and it will have an HEA, I guarantee.
You guys have been very patient, as this story should have come out last year. But here it is: the cover reveal!
Hemingway’s Notebook tells the story of Jake, the Cute Guy from the Present, who is taken back to the year 1932, where he meets Sebby, the Cute Guy From the Past.
Sebby’s been living on the edge, dodging rent collectors, getting behind on doctor’s bills, trying to care for his ailing Pop. And then lo, Jake, with his movie star smile, appears in his midst! (This isn’t the blurb, just the basic gist of it all.)
I love the tones in this cover, the bit of mournfulness, the bright spots of color.
Hemingway’s Notebook will be released late February/early March!
