Thank you to all my readers and fellow authors for your words of encouragement. After a lovely dinner last night with JP Kenwood, I came home and rented Bohemian Rhapsody on Amazon – a movie I’ve been wanting to see for a good long time.
I’ve loved the band Queen for a good long time, and remember hearing that titular song for the first time and how it blew the top off my brain, leaving lasting marks on my still-developing psyche.
Of course, I already knew the sad ending to the tale, but it was interesting and enlightening to watch Freddie Mercury’s life “behind the scenes” as it were.
I think my favorite scene was one of the final shots where the former band manager (who’d told Queen they would amount to nothing – whereupon Queen walked out) is listening to Queen performing at LiveAid and rocking a crowd of not merely thousands but MILLIONS of listeners.
Queen knew what they had and who they were and they did amazing things with their talent. And after yesterday’s sad slump (“Oh, woe, I have words to write!”) it really made me think about my writing and how lucky I am to be doing what I’m doing.
Different members of the band might have become professors, or dentists, or something “regular” like that, but they chose to become musicians and to put all of their heart and soul into that. So despite having hard times, I’m very very glad to be doing what I’m doing, and to be able to share it with my amazing readers.
